Spanish

All children at Oakcrest Preparatory Academy experience Spanish in context each day. At Oakcrest we use Spanish in our everyday language and introduce children to it in a more natural way. Children retain the information and understand its use in context when it is presented this way. Our teachers take the opportunity to teach the calendar in both Spanish and English; we play games and replace English colors with the Spanish word for each color; we line up by counting in Spanish. The children learn fun songs such as Cabeza, Hombros, Rodillas, y Pies (Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes), Months of the Year Song, and the Days of the Week Song in Spanish. Spanish is incorporated in our lesson plans and activities throughout the entire day. We believe introducing the children to Spanish repeatedly during various time during the day, the children will absorb the language better and more accurately than traditional Spanish teaching programs.
